Malery's Success Story
After working as a CNA for 29 years, Malery Hernandez never imagined she would return to school. When Children’s Hospital laid her off due to COVID-19, she faced uncertainty but saw an opportunity to move forward.
She chose to return to school alongside her daughter, who aspired to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
Sponsored by Madera County Workforce and guided by staff, she enrolled in the LVN program at the Institute of Technology, where they trained together.
Returning to school after many years required commitment and perseverance, but she remained focused.
In August 2025, she and her daughter graduated from the LVN program.
By November 2025, she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse and now works at Pain Clinics of Central California in Fresno, earning $29 per hour with medical benefits.
Today, she continues her healthcare career with confidence, proving it’s never too late to start again and lead by example.
