Sofia's Success Story

After graduating high school in 2021, Sofia went straight into the workforce. She spent about three years in the restaurant industry trying to make ends meet, but eventually realized serving was not what she wanted to do long-term. She decided it was time for a change and found the courage to go back to school.

She researched a 9-month Medical Assistant program, and with encouragement from her mother, she visited the Madera Workforce Assistance Center to see if financial aid help was available.

She completed everything required and was able to receive financial assistance that kept her debt-free, which was a huge relief at such a young age. The program was not always easy, but she pushed herself to stay focused and not give up. After finishing her classes, she completed a one-month externship where she gained hands-on experience in a doctor’s office. It was stressful, but she remained determined and worked hard in hopes of being hired and she was!

Today, she is proud to say she is working full-time as a Medical Assistant earning $22.00 per hour. She truly enjoys working in a place where she can care for and help others.

She is thriving in her career and already thinking about the future, with dreams of becoming a sonographer, registered nurse, or even an anesthesiologist.
